World's First content based image search
It is estimated that 50,000,000,000 image searches are done worldwide
each year, all of which are text based.
However, since the early '90,
there has been a long felt need to retrieve images by their content,
with no commercial success yet….
Well, Picitup have done it!
Subsequent to several years of research and an initial beta stage,
Picitup now provides for a line of tools for content based image
retrieval.
The first of them is Picmatch™, a powerful image search
tool.
The usage starts with normal text query for an image, But then
there's a twist- one can now pick any image result and filter in
similar images only.
As result an image search that will usually take
10 page views will be reduced 5 times to 2 pages views!
Advanced algorithms and supercomputing power
But an image has million times more information than a text string,
So how does Picitup respond in just a few seconds?
To achieve that, the Picitup patent pending algorithms compute thousands of visual aspects
of that image, such as the corners of one's smile, a product title or
a landscapes texture; and retrieve only images with significant
similarity to the original image.
To do all those comparisons in real time, the Picitup grid server provides for several Teraflops of
computing power, equivalent to thousands of Intel Pentium processors.
More visual search tools
In addition, Picitup has analyzed tens of thousands of images and
classified them into categories.
The outcome is a category filter that now allows a user to limit their image search to Faces, Products or
Landscapes.
Furthermore, if one just wants to find images of specific dominant color, Picitup offer a quick color filter.
Picitup has researched and defined the main looked for color space categories and is using the
resulting proprietary color filters to fetch only images with a chosen dominant color.
And now for some fun
For the celebrity fans amongst us, Picitup provides a celebrity
face match service.
Where anyone can upload their photos and receive their ten celebrity look alikes.
While this application is to some extent playful, the technology behind it will allow further down the road to search
for anyone one wishes to find only by his/her photo…!
